Trade Mania Episode 2: Catching Up
After the preseason spat of trades that occurred before an official ball was even snapped, there are quite a few trades to go over, especially after the shitshow that was yesterday. Let's just recap what's gone on since the season started before we get to the juicy shit from yesterday:
Homeboy Gio pulled this trade off after back-to-back weeks of getting rekd by his lineup choices involving the Jags and Skins backfields. Gio decided to package Mr . Hamstring and Chris Thompson away in order to get some more reliable targets in Julio Jones and a prospect in Corey Davis. Gio did give up a lot on paper but so far his trust in Yeldon and AP has paid off.. he did beat Erik after all, Ant, meanwhile, got some bench RB depth and is compiling the all-hamstring club along with Devonta Freeman.
Trade Grade: Ant- B Gio- B
1. 9/13- Chuck Swallows a Bitter Pill
Chuckie's reputation going in to this season was "Trade Rape and win the Ship." Luckily, most of us have wisened up to this shit. Chuckie saw some fresher meat in Roberto, who at the time was winless but not quite yet desperate, and tried to pull off this shit. Even in hindsight this trade would have been ridiculous if it went through. Since then, Chucks tried a many times to trade rape to no avail.. we'll get back to that later.
2. 9/27- Hindsight's 20/20
Let's fast forward to 2 weeks ago to a trade that actually went through. We gotta look at this in context of when it was made. Weege and Nauch swapped underperforming RBs in Drake and Howard, Weege got a solid WR and prospect in Brandin Cooks and Calvin Ridley in exchange for another prospect John Brown and an uncertain Leveon Bell. I'd say weeg won it on trade day. Now, with Bell returning in week 8, Cooks dealing with a concussion and Drake looking a bit busty, the script may have flipped. But my grade reflects the trade grade 2 weeks ago.
Trade Grade: Weege- B+ Nauch- B
3. 10/2- Gio says "Fuck RBBCs"
4. 10/3- Ant and Hurtado Injury Funfest
Hurtado finally puts his hat into the frenzy and exchanges some dinged up players with hopes that they manufacture some wins for his continually underperforming squad. Hurtado gave up a lot with essentially swapping Brown and Crabtree for a hobbled TY, but the Bengals backfield provides a lot more stability and a much higher floor than the mess that is the Eagles. Also, with the recent news of Ajayi tearing his ACL, it makes it muddier.
Trade Grade: Hurtado- A- Ant- B+
